BARCELONA: Omani companies secured deals worth more than RO 30 million at the 2026 International Seafood Fair in Barcelona, reinforcing the Sultanate of Oman’s growing footprint in global seafood markets.

The participation, coordinated by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), attracted strong interest from international buyers, distributors and investors, resulting in new commercial partnerships across markets in Africa, Europe and Asia.

Khaled bin Sulaiman al Salehi, Director General of Marketing and Commercial Affairs at Madayn, said the outcome highlights the value of international exhibitions in expanding export channels and strengthening confidence in Omani products.

He noted that the event also served as a platform to promote investment opportunities in Oman’s fisheries and industrial sectors, including projects focused on seafood processing, aquaculture and specialised retail. Madayn has developed preliminary feasibility studies for a number of high-potential investments in collaboration with relevant authorities and specialised consultants.

Dr Masoud bin Sulaiman al Azri, representing the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, said the fisheries sector remains a key pillar of economic diversification. Oman’s fish production exceeded 900,000 tonnes in 2025, with exports reaching 84 countries, supported by growth in value-added processing, aquaculture and cold chain infrastructure.

He added that participation in global exhibitions provides a strategic opportunity to exchange expertise, access new technologies and strengthen the sector’s production and marketing capabilities.

Officials also highlighted rising investor interest in Oman’s industrial cities and special economic zones, driven by competitive incentives and an integrated business environment tailored to the fisheries industry.

The event further underscored Oman’s efforts to enhance product quality, adopt international sustainability standards and improve supply chain efficiency, positioning the Sultanate of Oman as a reliable supplier of high-quality seafood to global markets. — ONA
